First, this was a very new undertaking by TexLUG-SA to offer Member expertise to judge a LEGO® Random Build Competition for a local Non-Profit Organization - Youth Code Jam. Second, several Members agreed that it was a good event with a good number of kids and adults partaking in the event, hands on random LEGO® bricks and it was fun watching the competitors complete their designs. One Member mentioned that with a few tweaks to the overall event and the timing of the individual brick builds, the event will get more publicity and thus more participation to make it bigger and better. Overall, most Members that judged or assisted the judges enjoyed their interaction with the event host, competitors and fellow colleagues to answer various questions in between building. Everyone had a great time and just hanging out with fellow LEGO® enthusiasts and young builders. Third, each Member enjoyed meeting new people with interest in LEGO® and seeing the creativity from the kids as they built in each of the rounds different creations from the generic LEGO® bricks they purchased in support of the Non-Profit . Walking around and talking to the families about their creations was exciting. Spending time with fellow TEXLUG-SA Members is always fun. Can’t wait for future events with Youth Code Jam that sponsored the event. Finally, a good portion of the proceeds from the dining options was provided to the Non-Profit. We hope our participation helped to bring folks in to build, compete and win LEGO® prizes provided by Youth Code Jam for very creative builds from limited bricks.
