Krystle’s Brick Shop at Rolling Oaks Mall, San Antonio, Texas 78247
11 members participated in arranging a Haunted Halloween display at Krystle’s Brick Shop. The table space allocated in the window of Krystle’s Brick Shop was 10x4 baseplates making for a nice sized layout that filled the allotted space. There were several MOCS from Members, as well as, LEGO® sets, both discontinued and current, included in the spooky display. Some of the themes represented were Monster Fighters, LEGO® DREAMZzz™, LEGO® Harry Potter™, Elves, Bionicle, Creator Expert, and LEGO® Icons. During set-up one model, the LEGO® Monster Fighters Vampyre Castle was dropped in the box and brick elements went everywhere! It was used anyway as a ruin which added to the haunted atmosphere. There was an initial diagram designed for placement of the buildings. It was modified to fit the situation as we saw how models looked next to each other and smaller works/monsters were interspersed to create vignettes. Reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Shoppers in the mall who walked by usually stopped to see the activity. Many of the Members engaged the public by answering their questions and inviting them to take a closer look. We also explained about the LEGO User Group (LUG) in case they were building with LEGO® bricks and wanted a community with which to engage. It is always a joy to watch younger children as they look over the display and notice the different characters, cars, or buildings that they recognize from the various LEGO® themes available over the years. The TexLUG-SA Members had a great time. Camaraderie is a treasure aspect of the Group. We chat, gossip, and brag about LEGO®. Members get along very well, and everyone is encouraged to actively participate in the creation of the display.
