Statue of Liberty Project Display 2023

Event Summary

Brick Rodeo 2023

Summary

The challenge of creating a sculpture of this scale was the most enjoyable part. With limited knowledge and experience in our Community with large sculptures, we learned much about digital design and about the nuances of large-scale sculptures versus other types of MOCs. Strong opinions and leadership experience that sometimes causes turmoil but worked out in the end through great discussions about how to modularize the Build for transportation while keeping it structurally sturdy. In the end we all expanded our building skills and knowledge which we can use in the next MOCs we create, learned a greater appreciation for the AFOL/LEGO® professionals who build similar creations, and developed a sense of pride we were able to accomplish our build with NO non- LEGO® parts (no glue or reinforcement). Also, having the opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow builders and learning from them was enlightening. And most importantly, we had an opportunity at Brick Rodeo 2023 to share our trials and tribulations, our successes, and see the wonder in both the AFOLs and public’s eyes when they saw our creation. Interacting with the public was a lot of fun and the reaction that the Statue got while on display was very satisfying. Team Members were very surprised at the number of viewers, adults, and children alike, who stopped to not only see the Statue, but also ask many questions dealing with the whole project. Members present were happy to be able to give them answers, for which they were very appreciative. Overall, this was an extremely satisfying activity of which everyone involved was very proud to have been a part of the designing, building, transporting, and displaying the Statue of Liberty.
